I'm honored to have been asked to be 1934's secretary, and if you guys and gals give me all your news to write about, I might be able to get the job done. I'm grateful to Dick Gruen and Bill Scherman for their help so far. If they keep it up, I may be half as successful in the job as Dick was.
Let's start off on a happy note and congratulate Art Moebius on an honor recently bestowed upon him. In recognition of his leadership, especially in the interest of trees and the environment, his home city of Aurora, Ohio, recently presented Art with a key to the city and named him Citizen of the Year.
I read an interesting note from HankWerner to the Horace Mann Alumni magazine—Hank and I and about ten other '34s are alumni of that institution: "I am enjoying my retirement from the practice of law, and proud of the achievements of my two sons. My older son, Peter, won an Oscar at age 29, and my younger son, Tom, is co-producer of The Bill Cosby Show, Roseanne, and Grace UnderFire, as well as being principal owner of the San Diego Padres."
Another note came from Stan Smoyer who recently had lunch with Carl Hess and advises that Carl is still active in business but is starting to taper off. Stan is hoping that Carl will taper off enough to come to one of our minireunions soon
A nice note from Bill Wilson. He and Irja have moved into a new home in Kendal at Hanover. They will join Dick Gruen and several other classmates at that fine residence. Also, from Harry Gilmore my "old" roommate who is on the go again: "Rhine-Danube Canal, Greek Isles, Istanbul—and also, with the aid of new golf clubs, scores in the eighties. " Gillie - Is that your age or for nine holes?
My thanks again to all you nice people who sent wishes of good will and especially news. If I didn't get you in this issue, I will in the next. Keep well and happy.
