It isn't surprising that most of the classmates aren't doing very much these days. What is surPrising is how some of us are still so active. It was a delight to read in the last Campaigner of Bill Ballard's trip to Europe and Asiatic Turkey with the Dartmouth Alumni Abroad course in which he had no trouble keeping up with a group a quarter of a century younger. Then, as reported in these notes earlier, was the trip Ted Baehr took with his son to England and Germany, Pren Bradley and his lecture series, and others.

I was unable to attend the class officers' meeting in the spring but I note that at the class meeting held at the time nominations were made for class officers effective with the 1998 Reunion. It seems to me this is a bit premature. Who is to say who will be around a couple of years hence? We are reaching a vulnerable age.

I have been in correspondence recently with David Oberlander '55, son of the immortal Swede. He has written a great account of his famous father and the championship 1925 football team. It seems that his father was much more than an outstanding athlete. He never considered capitalizing on his talents by going pro but chose to get a medical degree at Yale and become a country doctor. He ended as medical director for Prudential Life Insurance. The account is fascinating and is available from David for $12.50 at 2419 Little Creek Drive, Richardson, TX 75080-2512. Five dollars of this will go to Friends of Dartmouth Football.
