In May, in the city by the bay, Ed Marks and Vera dined with Jim and PegNorth, who hope to come to the BIG 65th in June. Ed and Vera also attended Joe Boldt's birthday, which we don't think was held in San Francisco^

Shel Read, writing from St. Paul, tells us about his humanitarian project. He sponsors Hmong (hill people from Laos) refugees, and in teaching them to read he found he learned Hmong faster than they learned English. The Hmong language is written in the French alphabet which Shel had to teach the children so they could read and write Hmong. No problem for Shel. French was his second language. He lived four years in Montreal.

From Mid-America, our middleman and newsletter editor, Bob Ackerberg: "I'm enjoying the programs and activities of our North Shore Senior Center. Good speakers every Tuesday, and irreverent golfnuts twice a week on par-three courses except when it rains—we've fired our weatherman twice this season, but we still get rained out—one result, higher handicaps. My wife and I plan to apply for admission to a retirement home located two blocks away; since we vote there, we might as well live there and avoid shopping for and preparing food."

Sadly, we note the passing of another fine classmate, the Rev. Shirley E. Green, whose obituary will be in a later issue.
