OCTOBER 1996 Philippa M.T. Guthrie,

Hello—lots of news. Some of it months old. Write in with updates. Becki Ambrose, who is still getting a Ph.D. in education, has been studying radical constructivism, situated cognition, and socioculturalism, i.e. how kids learn math (and no wonder I never learned it too good nor English).

Becki simultaneously finds news reports on classmates, including Nancy Pease, who still lives in Anchorage, Alaska, and is getting married and building a house. Becki reports that Jenny Jones finished her Ph.D. in drama theory at U. of Washington in Seattle and began a job at the University of Denver, hoping to pay off her student loans by the time of her retirement.

John "Goat" Gaudioso, who plays with numbers at IBM, wrote that he also played poker again with Kwab Gyasi-Twum, who lost money, again. Kwab is in finance at Pitney Bowes Credit Corp. Uh huh. Goat saw Ann Sweeney Geissinger in Darien with her three sons and one husband.

He reported, "She is the female version of Dorian Gray. She really does look EXACTLY the same [Ed. Note: I hate you, Ann]... Since they live in Darien, I assume they are financially secure." I dunno. What about all those European royals who live on the Champs Elysees and can't pay their electric bills...Goat, the cheesehead toast will take place next year when the Pack wins the Superbowl.

Alex Blumrosen wrote to say that he had married Laure (no maiden name) in the Alps, honeymooned in Bali, and traveled all over creation having fun. Alex is an attorney with a Paris firm and was recently appointed to the Council on Foreign Relations. Laure is an expert on cyberspace and advises America Online in France.

I think I'll start a heroin habit to make my provincial life sound interesting. Then I could write an angst-ridden novel and get a movie deal. Also, I hope they have kids. That'll put a swift end to all that gallivanting around.

In the new jobs and/or promotions department: Chris Wydler became majority legislative director of the House Science Committee in January 1995. Believe me, I got this news in March of 1996. Chris spent his years since college working for the assistant secretary of commerce for congressional and intergovernmental affairs, and then as Commerce's liaison to Congress. Chris's father used to be a N.Y. congressman, which probably has nothing to do with anything.

Tom Burack has been made a partner in environmental law at his firm, Sheehan Phinney Bass & Green in Manchester, N.H. Thank God—now he'll almost definitely stay in New Hampshire. Wouldn't want any shred of that accent to disappear

Alison Schmultz Burns has been named director of development at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Conn. Alison was at Chase Securities after graduating from Columbia B-school, but she was at the Harvard Art Museums before B school and is therefore eminently qualified for her new position. Not that there was any doubt! Jamie Trowbridge was made publishing director of Yankee Publishing, a.k.a. Yankee Magazine, and was also appointed to the company's executive committee.

I believe I recall that Jamie's father owns Yankee Magazine, which probably has nothing to do with anything. Jamie and his wife, Laura, also have four children, which probably also has nothing to do with anything, at least anything we can talk about in polite company. Peter Moran reunited with Peter Feer, Sandy Kelsey, DaveBritton, and Brad Holmes at the Jackalope Jaunt 10K race in Yuma, Ariz., at some unspecified date and time. It was also unclear whether they ran or just sat there in the sun next to a keg and watched other people sweat. I know MY preference.

Finally, I received lovely notes from Steve Whitely and Seth Swirsky and a news article about Kevin Peterson but have run out of space. They're up first next time. TTFN, as Tigger says. And now you know what I've been up to lately, over and over and over...
