We talked with Mimi Davis, who was fine and expected Gene home a few days later from a brief hospital stay. She has given up driving, so Gene is now the family chauffeur.

Twenty-niners attending the Kendal June luncheon were: the Blacks, Dudleys,Nighswanders, John Cornehlsen all Kendalites; Polly Chinlund (Ed), Hanover; Claire Knight (Jack) with daughter, Robin, Vt.; the Richardsons, Laconia; Janet Woodbridge(Paul), Quechee, Vt.; the Ripleys, West Lebanon.

It isn't Labor Day yet, and we are still in Maine. My son Richard'78 and Carrie had their firstborn baptized here in the log chapel, and named him after our dear friend Dartmouth's Ross (McKenney). Twenty-three family members spent that weekend at Yankee Point with us. Two of my grandchildren are having interviews at Dartmouth this fall and maybe there will be a sixth generation attending.

A welcome call from Dr. Milt Hoefle '28, who recently celebrated his 90th. A wonderful, longtime friend along with his Peggy. Their health isn't tops, but they are enjoying their home in Heritage Village, Conn. Milt still enjoys gardening, and over the years has done beautiful works in wood and needlepoint. Myles Lane's wife, Margaret, designed some of the pieces he did.

"I've stood awestruck by towering redwood trees

And trembled where Niagara shakes the ground

Gasped at Grand Canyon's awful majesty .

Known snowtopped mountains and the thunder's sound.

Of all God's work the farthest from my ken

Is women's love and caring for their men."

So says Rip!
