'62s as a class owe a very special "thank you" to Ben Vogel for his outstanding leadership and efforts as head agent of the 1996 Alumni Fund. For those who may not have received Ben's letter, following are summary excerpts:"... '62s exceeded our goal raising $178,872 for Dartmouth.. .a non-reunion record for us, while our participation rate approached 52 percent! Thanks to the 316 who responded to last year's 'call.' To those few who volunteered to assist me with the solicitation process, a very special thank you from the bottom of my heart. For our 35th Reunion year the College has suggested a reunion target...of $462,000. (The class of 1960 raised $606,588, the class of 1963 has its sights set on establishing a new reunion record, currently $753,053.) If you believe as I do, that our class is every bit as successful and generous as are 1960 and 1963, then $462,000 is, in basketball parlance, a lay-up." Each '62 should make a commitment now to make a generous contribution and to volunteer in assisting Ben in the solicitation process.

Your class officers, spearheaded by Tom Komarek plus Charlie Balch, have been working with Kent Hutchinson in planning a marvelous series of events for our 35th Reunion, June 9-12, 1997. We have been utilizing e-mail in the planning and coordinating process. In this regard we will be shortly soliciting class members for their e-mail addresses and plan to publish for our 35th a revised class directory, which will include e-mail addresses.

Despite the overwhelming response for new blood to serve as class officers, there is still room for more nominations. Rumor has it that Jim Haines has been approached to succeed yours truly and that Charlie Balch will take on greater responsibilities to help fill his retirement years. Gene Gasparo awaits your call.

As winter approaches I extend all the joys and blessings of the holidays and best wishes for a healthy and prosperous 35th Reunion year. On a personal note there is joy in the McKean household upon the arrival of granddaughter Catherine Penelope and the relocation of daughter Penelope and family to nearby Greenwich, Conn., where Penny has joined my wife Patricia in teaching at Greenwich Country Day School.

Write, fax, e-mail! We really want to hear from you!
