Every so often I am reminded of just how widespread the Dartmouth family is. In the past month I have met alumni in the most unexpected places hiking on a barren mountain in the Canadian Rockies, attending a policy seminar in New York, and interviewing teacher candidates. In the past year I have taken advice from a Dartmouth lawyer, been poked and prodded by a doctor who is an alum, and been served by an undergraduate bartender. We are just everywhere! So also the class of 1967 seems particularly widespread. I now count 45 states, five Canadian provinces, and 14 other foreign addresses from England to China to Uganda amongyour addresses. The one place we all should be though is in Hanover on October 3 and 4, 1997, to celebrate the 30th Reunion. Once again Bob Kugler and Paul Killebrew are hard at work planning a very special fall weekend, so save the date.
I spotted three '67s in the press lately for their business achievements. Joe Alviani has been receiving much attention for the work of the Massachusetts Technology Park Corp., where he is executive director. The collaborative is a partnership between business and government that has helped Massachusetts companies access millions of dollars in government funding, primarily for product research and development. John Schumacher has expanded his Gnommon Copy again with the addition of new facilities in West Lebanon. I wish that I had Richard Chu's eye for picking stocks. An analyst specializing in the computer market with Cowan, Richard was chosen by the Wall Street Journal again as an All-Star Analyst for 1996. He racked up a very impressive 73-percent return on his choices.
And in our own version of "Dynasty," for the fourth straight year Charlie Hoeveler and son, Charles, won the U.S. Tennis Association Father and Son Grass Court Championship at Longwood Cricket Club. While Charlie played tennis at Dartmouth, his son now plays singles for Stanford. Charlie is running more than 100 sports camps across the country. So, send me your news.
