Bud Kast's letter giving the record-setting results of the '97 Alumni Fund bears repetition as it notes donations of more than $16 million from more than 25,000 donors. The participation of 62 percent of our classmates was certainly remarkable and a tribute to the effort of Bud and his hardworking group of '39 agents. Congratulations! The current issue of Dartmouth Medicine is devoted to a celebration of the 200 th anniversary of the founding of the Dartmouth Medical School in 1797. It's a truly great story and merits a salute to the doctors of medicine among us who received their early training, and surely their love of their profession on the Hanover Plain. The Alumni Magazine plans to devote its issue of March 1998 to athletics, and we would like to hear from all of you who wore the Green, stars and scrubs alike, to share your favorite stories, greatest moments, aches and pains, memories of coaches and teammates, as well as news of your current experiences on the links, the court, the snow, the water, whatever. I'd appreciate receiving news from you on this by November 10th. Finally, President Bob Ehinger's note "to '43 classmates and wives: At the top of my list of important messages to pass along are two—holiday greetings and urging all of-you to plan to attend our 55 th Reunion next June 15-17 at Hanover. Those of you who attended our 50th know what a great time we had thanks to the efforts of Reunion chairs Bob and Pauline Field and their many helpers. Our 55th chairman, Bob Gray, promises an equally interesting and entertaining three days. Let's mark those three days on our calendars now. As 1997 draws to a close I thought you should be reminded of the special projects our class has been proud to underwrite this year. For the second year 1943 became a Dartmouth athletic sponsor to help our coaches in their recruiting efforts. This was our fourth year of assistance to the Native American Program by our funding of the Henry Perley Eagle Class of 1943 Internship. And finally, we joined many 1940-era classes to provide monies for relocating the memorial to WWII and Korean War casualties to a more visible and higher traffic area on campus. Look for it on your next Hanover visit. Your class officers send their warmest greetings for the holidays and hope to welcome all of you next June at the 55th. Bob"
