The first announcement I have is the birth of a baby. To my knowledge, the first '95 baby. Kathryn Elizabeth (Harty)Ross wrote that she and Chuck Ross would be parents at the end of October. Unfortunately at the time she emailed, she did not know the gender of the child. I hope next month's column will include the much anticipated name of the Ross baby.
New York News (not to be confused with NY 1 News): Nicole Vines' position in newmarkets for Warner Books sounds challenging with lots of perks. Nicole pitches books to retailers such as Urban Outfitters, Williams Sonoma, and Crate and Barrel. Since Warner Books is located in the Time & Life building, Nicole sees celebrities on a daily basis. Nicole also saw Deb Volland every day since they were roommates last summer while Deb worked at Wilkie, Farr & Gallagher until she moved down to D.C. to work for Fried, Frank. By now, Deb is probably busy hitting the books for her third year at Harvard Law. Nicole also runs into TiaMaggini, who worked in the Editorial Department at Avon Books.
Boston News: Cathy Kim is working with the general manager at BostonMagazine. Jeffrey Pease joined DanFoster at Avid Technology in Tewksbury, Mass., from Apple Computer in California. Jeffrey e-mailed, "I am just a few cubes away from Dan who's been a software engineer at Avid since before graduation. He's enjoying his return to the New England area.
Chicago News: Ashley Hemphill and Tammy Busch recently moved to Chicago. Ashley is doing equity research for William Blair & Cos., while Tammy is beginning her first year at Northwestern Law. After doing strategic planning for a financial services company in NYC and Denver, Tammy had the urge to get into taxation. She's joined at Northwestern by Adam Skilken (first year) and Andrew Shih (third year).
International News: Melissa Trumbull remains down under for her second year with Andersen Consulting. She's traveled in the area, even as far as Hong Kong to witness the handover to China. "That was amazing—we saw so many different people (Madeline Albright stayed in our hotel— didn't get to talk to her though, shocker), and the mood was incredible. Not to mention how wonderful Hong Kong is as a city. The whole experience was pretty overwhelming." When Melissa is not studying about the Asia/Pacific region, she entertains visitors. Kim Barry and Paulette Salmon travelled through Sydney, Chantell Dalpe visited with Melissa while Chantell spent her summer off from medical school with her family in Melbourne, and Alicia Abel stopped by while visiting her sister, who is studying for a couple of terms at the University of Wollongong before returning to Colgate. Meilssa introduced Chantell to authentic Australians, "the real people, not the Crocodile Dundees—I don't know very many jackeroos either." And of course Melissa put in a plug for Sydney, "I highly recommend it as a vacation destination." Maybe Melissa's second job is with the travel bureau.
