One month 'til the Fifth! All of a sudden I have plenty of news, so I'm not wasting any more breath on the intro. MaiTran reports that she has almost completed the first year of her internship in internal medicine at Washington University in St. Louis. Mai and SteveHunt are getting married at the end of May in Oklahoma City. Steve graduates from Stanford Med School this year and is trying to match into a general surgery program in St. Louis. Mai reports that Pam Zachar is in Brazil, doing infectious disease research.
Krista Klein is in Berkeley and loving it, "getting a Ph.D. in either Asian studies or history (I'm never sure which)." Andrea Higgins is living in Redwood City, Calif., hanging out with Pete Chung, painting in her inhouse studio, and teaching. Also in the Bay area is Jake Nunn, who will start Stanford Business School this fall (along with his girlfriend Dana Maclaurin '93). Andre Gauri is finishing medical school at Loyola in Chicago, and had a short visit with Mai in St. Louis while he was interviewing for an internal medicine residency.
Megan Eliassen is almost through her third year at UMass Med School, JoanneHuang is in her second year at Harvard Law, and Courtney Dickenson gives motivational seminars for a private company in Boston. In Seattle, Mai saw Steve Thompson, who is doing graduate work in geology. Mai probably already knows that her
former roommate Nina Kemppel won the 5K sprint at the U.S. Championships in Mount Bachelor, Ore., thereby picking up her third U.S. ski title and assuring herself a spot at the World Championships in Norway.
A newsclip in the New York Times announced that Second Lt. David Monte Sano recently graduated from the basic school at the Marine Corps Combat Development Command in Quantico, Va., and has been assigned to the Fleet Marine Force.
Naomi Aoki's uncle, Jim Hamilton '65, reports that Naomi spent the last two years in Missouri, working on her master's in journalism and interning at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Now Naomi is a fullfledged reporter, working on the criminal beat for the Virginian Pilot, which covers Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Naomi says to let everyone know that her brother Mikio is an assistant baseball coach at Dartmouth.
Speaking of coaches, track coach Barry Harwick '77 asked me to print the follow- ing announcement: There will be a recep- tion for cross country and track and field alumni on Saturday, June 14, 4-6 p.m. at Leverone. Spouses and children are encouraged to attend. Barry will make an announcement about an important new project that is guaranteed to provide immortality to alumni willing to participate. All kinds of great propaganda about the current team will be available as well. Call Barry at (603) 646-2540 with any
Kate Cohen e-mailed me in early January: "1997 will be a big year for me. My first book, The Neppi Modona Diaries, appears in bookstores this January. It's part history, part memoir about a family that survived the Holocaust in Italy. In August I am lucky enough to be marrying Adam Greenberg 'B9, the farmer/builder/lovely man I've been with since sophomore year.... In the approximately four and a half spare hours I'll have between now and then, I'll continue my freelance existence—a little editing, a little writing, a little catering, and a matinee thrown in once in a while."
Until next month, take care and keep in touch.
