The longest term (six I years) for the current group of class officers rapidly draws to a close. Is it our "Gotterdammerung?" Hardly, we are neither "Gotts" (though Dico might be up for Pantheon consideration) or old enough to consider it our "Dammerung" (though classmates have been heard to mutter, "that dammerung Crossman nailed me again). But, Wagner is not our style anyway. Now "Retrospective" would strike more appropriate and familiar chords, so with apologies to Stills, Furay, Young (Neil not Wayne), Martin, Palmer, and Messina, "For what it's worth," here goes.
"I am a child." How about running ski areas for a living, would that really count as growing up (I know the P&L is not child's play)? Well, Ken Leavitt is the president and CEO of Whitewater Mountain Resorts, which just purchased Powder Ridge Ski Area in Middlefield, Conn., and will add a family-oriented summer water park.
"Nowadays Clancy can't even sing," or write, or call, or fax (forget e-mail). Where are Ross Miller, Randy Shepherd, and Paul Molloy, to name some unaccounted for Al Potato brothers? "Heard it through the grapevine" (another song, another column) about the rest of the fraternity, and my dormmates in South Fayer. "Expecting to fly" on the water in the Reunion now, Fuzzy Thurston's only comment was "Tell Ratso to drop the weight, it's bad enough having lightweights in the boat, but that doesn't include the cox."
"Broken arrow." Saw a picture of Grant Standbrook in the paper, hockey coach at Maine (interim, I believe). I guess that may trigger some memories of hockey and lacrosse for some but for me, soccer; which brings up some WATNCY Jordan, Ned Dripps, Charlie Doll. I believe I have heard from or about the rest of the Pea Green booters (does that look like Daily D sports-talk or what).
"Mr. Soul." I have tracked (groan!) down most of my fleet-footed teammates, but not "Golden Wheels" Bruce Andrews. Then again, as I think about it, where are Jeff Pulis and Steve Davis?
"On the way home." The recent (March) Reunion mailing included over 100 definites and another 70 "hope to attend." That leaves perhaps 600 "forgot to mail green postcard."
I can vouch for a healthy number of those. They have made it into this column when I need someone to write about, and since I see them or talk to them every month, they appear, and you get to know their life stories. They will also be up in Hanover in June, having responded to the Reunion package (show me the money), prior green postcards notwithstanding. So, with a number of the "hope to attend" turning to "reality to attend" and a chunk of the "postal-impaired" coming, we could have 150 (likely) to 200 (does a wild Burkies in the woods?).
"Go and say goodbye" June 12-15 Hanover. Aloha.
