The class's e-mail list really began to hum in September. Thanks to some prodding from Ted Spetnagel, the most intriguing notes were about travel and children. Bob Adelizzi reported, for instance, their plans for a fall trip to Bali, Kuala Lumpur, Cape Town, and Nairobi, with a safari through Kenya at the end.
When the Adelizzis get back, I hope they will share recommendations about specific places they stayed and even the agents who arranged their touring. I can send the information to the e-list, pass it to TomSchwarz, or include it here.
To start off: Sally and I met Tim Tyler '59 last July, vacationing with his children and grandchildren (including son Todd '74) at North Fork Ranch in Shawnee, Colo. We were there because of a recommendation from Gloria and Vic Otley. Our family, including an infant grandson, had a terrific time.
Art Pierce wrote about not being big on reunions. He does like "keeping up with what is new as well as what remains little changed at Dartmouth." He and Deborah set out in late September for a week of travel in eastern Canada. Art has offered to help with the 1957 homepage when we get that started.
In September Tom Schwarz and family, including Tom's father and Tom's grandson, joined 400 at the Massachusetts statehouse to celebrate when Tom's son Doug was being sworn in as one of the state's Commissioners Against Discrimination. Tom says, "It was a great day with four generations of Schwarzes, lots of Doug's friends from Dartmouth '81 and from Harvard Law, and every member of his law firm."
Howie Howland tells us that JackCramer is now president of the Dartmouth Club of Cape Cod, that John Citron is treasurer, and that he (as mentioned in the newsletter) is himself vice president and program chair. The '57-dominated club had as speakers last year Laurel Stavis (the College's director of public affairs) as well as John Rassias and Carol Bardenstein of the faculty.
Here is the Cape Cod Club's invitation: "We meet for lunch and speaker at Mildred's Chowder House in Hyannis the fourth Tuesday of each month. Hope to hear from you if you are ever in the area!"
One way we can affect the choice of a new president for Dartmouth is to make our preferences known. If you haven't yet written to the search committee or don't know where to write, send your ideas to me, and I will pass them along for consideration. If we don't specify and explain ahead of time the qualities we think Dartmouth's next executive officer should have, we won't have grounds to say "told ya so" later on.
What Bear Spetnagel wants is what we all want, I think: "I'm interested in what's currendy going oh in various classmates' lives (i. e., what they're doing career-wise and/or retirement-wise, what interesting trips they've taken..., if they plan to be in my area soon, etc." You can reach him at , and should send word of your adventures to me at:
