We note with sadness yet another death in our class. Word has come that JohnWinchester died on August 23, 1997. John received his bachelor's degree with us in 1962 and his master's degree from Thayer in 1963. A more complete notice will appear in the obituary section in this or another issue. It has been a tough year for the class. Although we did not know John, nor many of the others the class lost this past year, we feel sadness nonetheless.

It is the time of year when thoughts turn to winter and snowy woods. During the magical 35 th Reunion in June some of us took a break from the gende strains of Gary and the Wombats and the beer keg. We left the class tent across from North Fayerweather, walked up the path past the observatory, and on toward the top of the hill where there is the magnificent sculpture of Robert Frost seated in meditation. JimHaines, an accomplished English professor from Pennsylvania, intoned the Frost poem Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening. The mood and the night were perfect. Jim recited from memory, complete with the Frost North Country accent.

Jim Biggs has been named president of People's Bank of Bridgeport, Conn., which is the largest independent bank in Connecticut. Jim attended Columbia University Graduate School of Business after Dartmouth and joined the bank in 1964. He established and managed the human resources department in 1969, and became vice president in the 19705. Jim's appointment is effective January 1, 1998. Happy New Year, everybody. Here's to 1998, mail, and Dartmouth!
