In the July 1998 issue of the class newsletter editor John H. Chamberlin passed along the request of the Alumni Council to seek reasons for the decline in alumni/ae participation in Dartmouth matters attendance at reunions and other gatherings, the Alumni Fund, support for the athletic teams and other undergraduate activities, etc., etc. I have sentjohn mv analysis of the causes of the decline and some recommendations to reverse it. Thank goodness for the World Cup, Wimbledon, and the golf tournaments in the United Kingdom and the United States reported on TV to counter the three-ring circus the media offer from Washington. I often have to remember that old northern New England proverb, "One can get a good night's sleep only when the legislature is not in session."
