While Brooks Clark may have handed over this position to me, he continues to be an excellent supplier of information. Thank you, Brooks! His most recent contribution was an article from the Knoxville News-Sentinel about Dirk Davidson. An oncologist in Knoxville, Dirk recendy won two races that established him as the top kayaker in the U.S. men's masters division.

On August 9 Dirk won the men's 40 and older division at the U.S. Canoe and Kayak Slalom National Championships in South Bend, Ind. Four days later, at the Nike World Masters in Bend, Ore., he captured first in his age bracket and also beat the entire field.

Anne Gunn is still working at Tally Systems, a company she co-founded in 1990. Tally Systems is headquartered in Lebanon, N.H., and has offices in Waltham, Albuquerque, and Dublin, Ireland. She left the ranks of management a few years ago in order to stop traveling and start being at home for her daughters, Elizabeth (11) and Rebecca (8). However, she continues to work fulltime flexible hours as a programmer. Anne says they are always recruiting, so if anyone daydreams of moving back to the Upper Valley and having great quality of life and a great job, contact her at .

Senator James M. Jeffords (R-VT) paid tribute to Dan Smith for his ten years of commitment to the crafting and building of the Northeast Dairy Compact Commission and the ratification of the Northeast Dairy Compact, recently adopted by Congress. Dan holds a law degree from the University of Wisconsin and served as law clerk to the Honorable Frederic W. Allen, chief justice of the Vermont Supreme Court, before serving as legal counsel for the Vermont state legislature. Dan drafted the Dairy Compact legislation, subsequently working as executive director for the Dairy Compact Committee, where he spent six years traveling throughout New England to educate legislatures and build support for the compact, before turning his efforts to Washington, D.C., and ratification by the U.S. Congress.

That's all for this month. Please keep in touch.
