Welcome to the second installment of the '82 freshman year dorm review! While many at Dartmouth spent two, three, and even four years living in their freshman dorm, it was a rare individual indeed who decided to remain in French Hall beyond freshman year. Located in the most remote nether regions of campus, some rooms in French were arguably the furthest any freshman might find her/himself from the center of campus. It was a marginal existence indeed! The dorm's principal merit was the priority credit one accumulated for subsequently living in the Channing Cox apartments.

Arriving in Hanover fully two decades ago in the fall of '78,I found myself living in the "French Underground" (room 007, no less), with none other than the BernieThompson as my roommate. Bernie lives in Philadelphia with wife Karen Cassidy and his two kids. Karen brings home the bacon while Bernie works, takes care of the kids, plays music, and stirs up trouble. PattyParker Mueller is living in Vail, Colo. She was married in 1995. Her daughter, Morgan, is ten months old. Fred Blum has been married since 1987. He is an anesthesiologist and lives in Oakland, Calif., with his wife, Stacey. They have a nine-year old son and two daughters, ages 7 and 3. WaltPimbley has been married and living in Taiwan for 13 years, teaching English. Margaret Spring is a lawyer in New York City. Grant Reeher lives in Syracuse, where he is a professor of political science at Syracuse U. "Tee" Lotson has moved on from her work in sports law and recently entered a seminary. Ron Hrebinko is still in Pittsburgh. He is a urologist and a professor of medicine. The eldest of his three children is 15!

From crazed physics geek Guy Lister: "I write code (C++ and Oracle) and English to implement/manage software projects for a living. Currendy working on die Ohio Law Enforcement Agency Data System (for police cars throughout Ohio). I have two daughters, Sydney Anne 5 and Clare Margaret 2." Jon Ettinger writes, "I live in Wellesley Mass. with my wife, Teresa (Bucknell '82) and three-year-old son lan. I am an environmental lawyer, litigator, and partner in the Boston law firm of Foley, Hoag & Eliot. One persistent recollection of French Hall: 'bathrobe beers' on Saturday mornings in 1979." Rob Bell works for Monitor in Boston. We met at reunion. Kid number one looked right at home at Bones Gate. Number two is on the way or has just arrived. Dave Goldstein is still in Boulder, working in computers and climbing mountains. I'm told that Dave is one of the premier extreme climbers in the country. I don't think he'll be rejoining the navy any time soon. As for yours truly, I finally bit the bullet and "became" an M.B.A. Selfemployed management consultant to nonprofit organizations, Boston-based, and one of the last unmarried holdouts.

Any French Hall missive would not be complete without mentioning the late BillTate, our resident genius, who wrote a massive study of Nietzsche, spent nine successive terms "on," then tragically committed suicide at the age of 21 in the fall of 1981. I always think of Bill on his birthday (Sept. 3). He is buried in Laurel, lowa. Here is our schedule of deadlines for future featured dorms: Nov. 10, Mid-Mass; Dec. 10, Topliff; Jan. 10, Streeter.
