While this column is being written in March, you will most likely be reading it in the June issue of the Alumni Mag, BO forgive me if some of the news is a little dated. By the next column I will have interesting news from our class mini, which Mike Orr worked so hard to put together and which I am told promises to be well attended.
The November 25, 1997, issue of CaribNews contains an interesting article about Frank costello's recent election to the post of president of the Jamaican-American Chamber of Commerce. In the new position Frank will be responsible for the overall management of the chamber's affairs. Since 1973 he has been a partner in the Washington, D.C., law firm of Zuckert, Scott, and Rasenberger and is also executive vice president of Farragut International, the firm's consulting subsidiary. His law practice represents many airlines and four companies doing business in Jamaica and focuses primarily on the transportation and tourism industries. Frank is also a director of the Jamaica Children's Project, a charity which is concerned with pediatric health care in rural Jamaica. After Dartmouth he earned his law degree from Georgetown University Law School. He is married, has three children, and resides in Reston, Va.
Another article in the February 12, 1998, edition of the Wisconsin State Journal brings news of classmate Brian Butler, who is running for reelection to the 25th District seat on the Dane County board. It seems that Brian is running for a second two-year term against two challengers. He resides in Middleton, Wise., is married, has four adult children, and is a business lawyer with the firm of Stafford, Rosenbaum, Rieser, and Hansen. After Dartmouth he received his law degree from Northwestern University Law School in 1968. Good luck, Brian—we hope you are victorious! And hats off to all our classmates who take on the challenges of elective political office. Perhaps some of you know others in the class who also hold elective positions or you yourself do. Please tell us about it.
I recently had a nice conversation with Jerry Armstrong. Jerry is the managing partner of Arena Capital Partners in New York City, a private equity investment firm. Prior to starting Arena Jerry enjoyed a long and distinguished career in a variety of senior level investment banking and private equity investment partnership positions with, among others, Stonington Partners, Merrill Lynch, PACE, City Investing Cos., Filmways Inc., and the Chase Manhattan Bank. After Dartmouth he received his M.B.A. from New York University's Graduate School of Business. He is a member of the board of directors of several companies including Ann Taylor Stores, Blue Bird Corp., Columbia National, WSR Corp., and the World Color Press. He is also president of the board of trustees of the Buckley School and assistant secretary of the board of trustees of Union Settlement Association, both of which are in New York City. He lives in New York with his wife, Kristina and three sons. With that level of activity, what do you suppose Jerry does in his spare time?
Finally, I received a note from SteveFuller indicating that he and Karen have four children, ages 13-31, and are now proud grandparents. Steve was recently elected president of his local chamber of commerce and, along with Karen, is the proud owner of a thriving printing business.
