Once again I, Gary Brooks, am filling in for John Chittick, who is in Europe attending and presenting at the International AIDS Conference in Geneva. John claims to have resigned as secretary. We'll see.

I guess it is a sign of our advancing maturity, but two of our classmates have recently passed away. Geoff Cole succumbed to a stroke in late March, and Gerald Cleary died at his home in Westford, Vt., in April.

Geoff was a graduate of George Washington University Law School and was an attorney for the Commonwealth of Virginia. He lived in Berryville, Va., at the time of his death. He leaves two children, Alison 18 and Ash ton 17.

Gerry Cleary was also a law school graduate (University of Virginia Law School). He lived in Westford, Vt., with his wife, Marianne, sons lan and Michael, and daughter Kate.

Our condolences are extended to the families of these two classmates.

On a happier note, word has reached us that David Irwin has been appointed president and CEO of B-Tree Systems Inc. in Minnetonka, Minn. B-Tree is a leader in automated testing of embedded systems, desktop computers, and equipment. Dave was formerly president and CEO of Mizar Inc., based in Carrollton, Texas.

Congratulations are also in order for the irrepressible Stu Zuckerman, who has been named director, national corporate marketing, for the PBS Sponsorship Group, based at PBS's NYC flagship station, WNET/Thirteen. In that capacity Stu will be responsible for developing sponsorships for national PBS programs such as Kennedy Center Presents, Nature, Mystery!, and The News Hour with Jim Lehrer.

Our classmate and friend Tom Avery is recuperating temporarily at a hospital in Orange County, Calif. He would surely appreciate a card or note from friends. The address is: Orangegrove Rehabilitation Hospital, 12332 Garden Grove Boulevard, Garden Grove, CA 92643.

In my best (read most obnoxious) lawyerly way, I would like to expressly disclaim any implied warranty or representation that I have agreed to assume the class secretary role from John Chittick by virtue of undertaking this one column. Anyone else interested
