Virginia Mather our longtime news gatherer, has moved to her childhood home town of Marlborough, Mass. (23 McEnelly St., 01752-2215), to be with her dad, a sport of 97 years. Ginnie left Westwood, Mass., where she and Bruce lived and raised their children, and she wants all of us to direct their news to her new home. She is pleased to continue as one of our two newsletter editors, but really, folks, we need your input, so use the pink cards, or your own letterhead, to say "Hi!"
Townes and Joan Harris spent three months in North Carolina, their "winter" cottage. Townes will fill us in on whom he met, where, and doing what, for a later issue.
Don Page writes that his ski patrol work took him to Vail, Colo., in early '99 winter, to work the World Ski Championships. A fun time, says Don. Upon return home, Don slipped on "home ice", his own driveway, and broke a rib. This slowed him a bit for three weeks but he's healed nicely. The mishap did alter plans for Don and BillHallager to get their skis together as they had planned. Don noted that Bill and Jean spent time at their new location, in North Carolina, while waiting for the mud season to dry in their Lincoln, N.H., hometown. A fine place to relax and golf during this interlude. This is last call to get in on our Oct. 22, 23 fall mini at Hanover and Norwich Inn, for parades, fine foods, sports, and good friends. Call Joe Hayes at (603) 964-6503 to make your plans. Hope to see you among the 25-30 who will be with us.
Our tribute to our late class secretary and alumni notes editor, Ed Grady, continues with this note received from WalterPeterson, and so well put.
"Ed Grady's passing gave me quite a jolt as I had been unaware of his having any health problems recently. This is probably more my own fault and an object lesson to us all to make that extra effort to keep in touch.
"He was a deep-down good person, with a delightful sense of humor when you got to know him. We were roommates for several terms at Dartmouth and got to know one another very well. Once I admired a picture of his sister and suggested he introduce me to her. For some reason he didn't react with very much enthusiasm to my suggestion. How do you like that for putting me in my place!
"Dorothy and I shall remember many quiet moments during alumni reunions over the years with Ed and Mary. We will miss him greatly, for he was a very special person. Sincerely, Walter Peterson."
Amen to that, for our class.
