I think I have finally "tappedinto" a resource for news—sympathetic former secretaries who appreciate my deadlines! A note from an ex, Wayne French, now retired and adjusting, or perhaps Joan is doing the adjusting! While enjoying the success of their three children, they became grandparents in June 1998. Wayne does not miss the commute to New York, and is contemplating the startup of a small business with Joan. They both have a great deal of energy still left as evidenced by their involvement with our 40 th Reunion. Wayne keeps in close contact with former roommate Steve Plank in Connecticut and Norm Blair, working in the construction business in Massachusetts.
Tom Taggart, a civil trial lawyer living in Bexley, Ohio, was recently awarded the Ohio Bar Medal, the Ohio State Bar Association's highest honor. The medal is given to a person who exemplifies service to the legal profession, the community and humanity. Congrats, Tom!
A "good-feel" story came to me from Lewiston, Maine, where Ted Johanson has directed die Falcon Shoe Manufacturing Co. for the past 26 years. A featured article in the local paper concerning the growth of adult education cited 36 of Falcon Shoe's employees for receiving their high school diplomas. Ted is quoted as saying that many of these graduates now hold leadership positions in this company. Ted feels strongly that the shoe industry in the United States needs continuing education in technology for the industry to remain viable in the global economy. Ted, who has degrees from both Dartmouth and Harvard, still takes classes himself at Central Maine Technical College "to keep up."
As we enter this season of love, and we pause to think how fortunate we are, it might be a good time to reflect upon the classmate support plan advocated by your class executive committee. This proposal envisions a support network, set up and maintained by the class, whereby classmates in need can be identified and, in the appropriate manner, contacted by their friends in the class to offer support, concern or help. I know that Ray Becker has been putting much effort into this proposal.
A joyous and healthy holiday season to you and your families—remember to stay "connected".
