The first to use my e-mail address was Phil Calkins, who wrote that he had nothing for the column but went on to say, "I did hear from Peter Hesbacher. We both had a great time at reunion, lots of good memories. I renewed my friendship with my senior year roommate, JohnLenssen, whom I had not seen since the day after graduation when we left Hanover. He is now in New Mexico. His wife wrote me when she got home and sent me the information on the Champis narrow-gage railroad in northern New Mexico. Pete and I and our wives are now making plans to visit the Lenssens next summer and ride the rails. Ruth continues to work on retirement areas. She told me that Florida is out because there is too much humidity. I guess we are now seriously looking at the Southwest, so our trip to New Mexico will be appropriate." Phil is still the business manager at Chicago Junior School in Elgin.
The Medical School magazine reports that Tom Aaberg's second daughter, Sarah, after graduating from the University of Colorado last spring, is working in a research lab and aiming for medical school. That would mean a clean sweep, since Tom Jr. and Leigh are physicians, as is Tom Jr.'s wife, Melissa. All three are at Emory University School of Medicine, where Tom chairs the department of ophthalmology.
Ron Mellon tells me that he and Martha have decided to conclude their hobby of buying old houses, fixing them up, selling, and moving to another. They have lived "all over Dayton," where he is still with the Veteran's Administration. They are thinking of retirement in "a few more years." With four children (two of each) and 12 grandchildren (six of each, with a 13 th on the way to break the tie), they are looking forward to lots of visiting and activity.
school. Joyce took a leave of absence as professor of education to become head of Independent Day School in Tampa.
Congratulations to Dave Brock, who was elected president of the Conference of Chief Justices at its recent annual meeting. The conference consists of the highest justice in each of the 50 states and U.S. territories. Dave has been a member of the New Hampshire Supreme Court since 1978 and chief justice since 1986.
When you begin seeing sweaters, sweatshirts, and other apparel with 01-01-00, you will know it as the brainchild of another former class president, Joel Portugal, who is having a ball in "semi-retirement" as vice president of Landor Associates. Let me hear from you, and have a wonderful and healthy 1999.
