Updates on Jon Hurst keep coming my way, but not from him. In the fall the Case Western Reserve law student was roaming the Ohio forests with a paintball gun in hand, according to Kevin Walsh. More recently, ShannonJarosh relayed that Hurst is coaching swimming at Magnificat High School for girls in his spare time.
Also teaching high school is ElizabethMawn, though you might think she's a consultant at MCA in Connecticut since I mistakenly wrote that here several months ago. Well, end the teasing folksElizabeth writes me that while she does live with consultants Katy Bieneman and Eric Petitt, she is actually a seventh-grade history teacher at Greens Farm Academy in Westport, Conn., where she is starting a dance program. Tara Bennett is also teaching and dancing. She and Leah Capalbo '97 advise the student government association, in addition to their teaching responsibilities at Norwell High School, just south of Boston. According to Leah, Tara and her boyfriend singlehandedly transferred some of the Dartmouth swing mania to Norwell when they started swingdancing at the high school homecoming dance and "the student body formed a big circle around them to watch them dance." Now swing is the craze there, thanks to Tara.
Micheal Posey has also joined the teaching ranks, instructing students in Latin and Spanish at The Pennington School in Pennington, N.J. His close proximity to New York City allows him time to visit Shawn Thistlethwaite, recently hired by advertising firm Ogilvy & Mather, and Patricia Limares, who is working for a New York law firm.
Also in New York is Ted Huang, who is toiling at MSNBC as an interactive production assistant, the liaison between msnbc.com and MSNBC On Air. He also writes and produces Internet- and technology-related stories and notes that "I know WAAAYYY too much about Monica Lewinsky."
Adrian Durbin mentioned that, following his and Lisa Zeytoonjian's work on Scott Harshbarger's campaign for Massachusetts governor, Lisa moved to Abt Associates. Adrian added that BlairKenney, Alex Keally, Pete Lanfer, GregWalsh, and Chad Trexler are living together in a Somerville apartment. Nearby, Mary Hollendoner, StaceySheriff, and Kristin Dwyer reside together in Boston. Mary writes that she's enjoying her job as a strategic consultant at Treacy & Cos.
From the Big Green area, J. MatthewBrennan writes that he is at Dartmouth Medical School researching for Dr. William North on the development of a monoclonal antibody to breast cancer cells. Also in Hanover, Justin Carrino nightly tends bar at Molly's. By day, his Norwich housemates Stu Davidson, MollyHershey, Matt Tarver-Wahlquist, and Chrissa DuRocher all work around Hanover.
Down here in D.C., Stu Jordan just switched jobs. He's now a case manager for a transitional program for homeless families in Alexandria. Stu sends word that Miles Bingham is curating for a museum at a small university in upstate New York. By the time you read this, Stu and his girlfriend Jessica will have spent a wonderful (and cold?) New Year's with JoshMooney, Liz Gerber, Brad Molyneaux,Lindsay Page, Elizabeth McGoldrick, and Eric Daly at Great Bear Cabin at the base of Moosilauke.
Congratulations go out to Ty Kawika Tengan '97 and Gilberta Ku'ulei Reyes, who were married on Aug. 8, 1998, on the island of Molokai in Hawaii. Ku'ulei writes that a big lu'au was held in the newlyweds' honor and that among the guests were several Dartmouth faces. H. Dickon Verey '97 and Martha Zegarra were part of the bridal party, and other guests included Robert Rogers '97 and Nehomah Thundercloud '97 as well as some undergrads.
Ty is studying for his Ph.D. in cultural anthropology, and Ku'ulei is studying for her master's of education in teaching degree at the University of Hawaii, Manoa.
Let me know what you're up to, or at least send me your updates on Jon Hurst.
