The year 1998 was full of challenge, and, joy, for Pete Barber. Last spring he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He began hormone therapy and, in the fall, underwent 38 days of radiation treatment. Now he's continuing with hormone therapy again.
But last summer Pete still found the energy and time to marry Mary. They came East from their hometown of Santa Rosa, Calif., first stopping at their little house (a cape?) on Cape Cod, where they visited with Barry Machado, and then heading to northern Vermont. They were married in Peacham and had a reception in Lyndonville, with Bill Duval in attendance.
Mary has two grown sons, and Pete's children are both in the East—Heather works for the U.S. Mayor's Conference in Washington, and Chris is a junior American studies major and piano player at Wesleyan. Pete maintains a buoyant, upbeat outlook on life and will take on all comers at .
Other classmates are following their own muse. Rick Drake, who recently married Donnette, a doctor, put his 26-year-law career behind him and opened a metaphysical bookstore in Lakewood, Ohio. JohnHarburgh teaches British literature at Satellite Beach High School in Florida, and Spanish at Brevard Community College, plays viola in two orchestras, and is coaching the Space Coast rowing team. And DanGlazer wrapped up a successful law and business career and is now into writing, soccer coaching, tennis playing, and following his wife, Donna, around on the national golf scene. (She took up the game five years ago and won the New England Amateur Championship last year!)
