I begin writing this column by saying, "My hands are cold from the recent ice storms to hit Philly." You begin reading this column by saying "Who cares! How about another guest columnist?" Well, sorry, folks, no can do, particularly since this is due tomorrow and Babs is likely snowbound in Cleveland. So here's what I have for you: Laura Icken is in London working as a media/production lawyer for Pearson TV, which owns a variety of media-related companies. If you like to travel, you'll envy Laura s globetrotting across Europe and Scandinavia working on productions. If you like lengthy titles, you'll also love Laura's business card, which describes her as head of legal and business affairs for Europe and Latin America. If you're ever in London, Laura would welcome the contact. Sal Sorce and StevePerry are both in London, but I must ask myself whether Laura would want contact from them. My goodness, would you? An anonymous note arrived and despite the incredibly great journalistic risks associated with publishing potentially unsubstantiated material, I will share it with you. Apparently, Alex Muromcew was timed at 135 mph driving in a NASCAR race at the California Speedway in Ontario, Calif., on July 24. Clearly, Alex will be in great demand at our next reunion for a Tallv Rally!
Arriving from a more reliable source, the College, was news of Cynthia Davis and her latest endeavors. Cynthia, currently the general manager of the small business finance division at The Associates in Dallas, was one of 14 women selected to participate as a fellow in the International Women's Forum (IWF) Leadership Foundation. This landmark program offers a one-year fellowship designed to promote leadership development for women who have a proven track record of achievement and leadership qualities. The program is taught at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and combines academic work, career skill training, and a unique mentoring relationship with some senior-level female executives. Lillie Richardella, the COO of the IWF, commented, "Ms. Davis is a talented individual with the demonstrated leadership qualities characteristic of women who reach top positions in their fields." To Cynthia, in the words of many sitcom stars, "You go, Girl!"
Also received an unusual missive from Eric Wilinski who, given his work in journalism and editorial endeavors, surely must have sent only accurate tales from San Fran. See if you can match the individual with their hobby/update: Mike Lehman (Coast Guard Reserve); Tom McDonald (married to Belinda from 1982 spring break trip; several kids); John Kulseth (sandal and handbag salesman); Hubert Smith ("player," married with child); Dave Story (conspirator); Chris Mulligan (cellist in a ska band). If you picked the most absurd possibility, you win. Yes, Hubert Smith is married and has a kid! Maybe the most absurd was E's self-assessment (grew a mustache, looked like Tom Selleck), but I'll give him some leeway. Seems like a lot of people these days are running marathons. Barry Bass and ChrisMulligan ran New York, both around three hours. Jim Sapienza ran the Philadelphia Marathon in the 2:45 range, which qualifies him for Boston this April. I saw Dave Burt in Stone Harbor, N.J., this past summer and he didn't mention a single word about marathoning. He did say he's a happy family man/lawyer in the Boston area. Random comments: Thanks to everyone for the holiday cards. Send in your Annual Fund donations. Only 15-letter word that doesn't repeat a letter is uncopyrightable. And, finally, since I'm now technologically hip, send me an e-mail at .
