The February ski minireunion drew 27 to the Alden Inn dinner. Durable JoeSmith showed up late and ate his full share after a nasty spill on the slopes and a trip to the Hitchcock emergency room. Hospitable Ellie and BobHuke gathered the out-of-towners for drinks and dinner at their Norwich home the night before. Sissi Shattuck, who has done such beautiful sketches of Hanover scenes, had a three exhibition of her landscapes and portraits in February in Hartford, Conn. Speaking of reunions, Bob Hoekelman stayed on for two days after our 50th as chair of the Dartmouth Medical School class of '48 50th. He received kudos for his efforts from his DMS classmates.

Hugh Ettinger is retired and living in the Atlanta area. A Tuck School product, he worked as a securities analyst for several major brokerage and underwriting firms. He learned of a sophisticated process for waste processing and helped found a company that now functions in five states processing solid waste and sewage sludge. It was a tough start because the disposal of these tends to be extremely politically sensitive. It took him to Georgia, where one of the operations is located. He and Jane have three children and two grandchildren.

As this is being penned, President Wright has announced that the Trustees are committed to ending the Greek system as we know it. This apparently means that the College has mandated that fraternities and sororities be coed. Since national charters do not permit this, it would appear that a house must go local or be banned from campus. It has been our impression that fraternity and sorority parties and fellowship were coed already. Only the living arrangements seemed to be kept separate.

In our 72 years we have noticed that not everyone wants to eat, sleep, recreate, study, or whatever with everyone else. We do not understand this attempt to homogenize people, perhaps because we did not have the advantage of being in the sixties generation. But we will bet money on the fact that there are a lot of times when men like the company of men and women prefer to live with women, even when they are not gay or lesbian. We welcome your comments, ideas, and opinions on this matter, which we will condense in this column and circulate more fully in DickDahl's newsletter.
