I want to thank all of you from the class and other classes too, who were very kind to write to me and express your sympathy for the rather unexpected death of my wife last February. And a special thank you to Reg Pierce who filled in for me that month. Speaking of Reg, did you happen to see the N.Y. Times article about Pierce's Inn, a while back? Some reporter stayed at the Inn and wrote about it—favorably I should add. Referred to Reg as "an elderly white-haired gentleman." Reg denies having any knowledge that a reporter was there. A fine article and I'm sure it's good for Reg and Nancy. Made a real boo-boo when I wrote about the Dartmouth Indian raid on Princeton back in '47. I said we got the blimp courtesy of Doug Leigh's father's ad agency. Doug advises, not so. I apologize.

Doug pretty much retired from the ad business doing a lot of painting and recently awarded a first at a show in Kent, Conn. I reported a similar award a couple of years back. The show being at the Ridgefield. Congrats, Doug. He and Nancy traveling a bit. Visited with the Kimballs and Lynches (Jim and Arie) this spring in Arizona, and before that with Bob Stevenson and Stephanie in Calif. He's off to Montana this month to do the parks. Many thanks for all the news, Doug.

A call from Bob Poet (Fullerton, Calif.). He had a little medical problem but now in good shape and playing in a Softball league for seniors. He finally gave up running, too bad. He might have beaten me at 800 meters. Another call from California. This one, HarryColmery. Would you believe Harry's actually thinking of retiring from the investment business?

Keeps tabs on Jack Novascone and GeorgeGlass. Hasn't been able to contact Jim Pulliam (Pasadena) lately. Nor have I. How about some news, Jim? Aletter from Herman "Min"Lambert. Where? St. Petersburg, Fla. He's retired and had been teaching and coaching in Vermont.

Learned that Alaska Pacific University has been the recipient of a $1 million endowment from Lowell Thomas Jr. and wife Fay Thomas. The gift will become the Lowell Thomas Family Endowment for nordic skiing fund. A newspaper article states: "Lowell Thomas Jr., a former Alaska lieutenant governor and Alaska bush pilot, was a member of the Dartmouth College ski team in the late 1940s." All true. Should've added one of the finest men in the class of 1946. I am indebted to Tom Meacham '65 for the information.

Gene Bokor in Hanover during May, to take part in the 200th anniversary of TheDartmouth. You'll recall "Boke" was onetime sports editor for that publication writing a thing called "The Green Years". Our Howard Samuel was editor of the paper one year and the late Bill Burner was also sports editor.

I regret to inform you of the deaths of two classmates: the Rev. Paul C. Kintzing on March 12, 1999, and John D. Reardon on March 6, 1998. We extend our sympathy to their families.
