Sure hope you think twice about not coming to reunions if you want to see your college buddies. Three more slipped away from us—Bill Jones and Homer Young in April and Tom Davis in June. We join their families in mourning their loss.

On a happier note, Bob Huke as justice of the peace in Norwich, Vermont, already has some same-sex civil union ceremonies to his credit. Vermont recognizes these now and they are getting out-of-staters in for the ceremony. One couple brought their parents, he says.

Sissi and Gil Shattuck were showing Boston to some visitors from Austria last summer and had a boat ride around the harbor the same week that all the visiting tall ships were there. He observes that this must have been what Boston Harbor looked like 150 or so years ago. Also present were the huge CVN J.F. Kennedy and other modern warships. (Secretary's Note: Come to San Diego. We have those big guys all the time.)

Paul Hackett was honored on Memorial Day for his long service in Rye, New York, in founding and nurturing the local blood bank. Paul is a professional volunteer who has initiated many programs for the disadvantaged and disabled in his area. He served in WWII as a Navy hospital corpsman.

Margie and I have been on the road a good bit this year with the conviction that time is getting away from us and if we want to see faraway places wed better do it while we can. Already behind us are two trips to Hawaii and a smattering of Greece, Wales and Ireland. As this column goes to Hanover (August) we are packing for a transatlantic cruise from Copenhagen to New York. The mini-reunion for the Harvard game in October is on the agenda and we plan to check out some grandchildren in Virginia for Thanksgiving. Next year is already full until mid-year. To leave this wonderful San Diego area, which is about as idyllic as you can find, seems a travesty but there will be time for that when we can no longer make it to and from the airport.

This should be my last column, as it was decided some time ago that class officers should be rotated every three years. This has been my second tour as secretary and I've enjoyed running you down and finding out what you are about. You'll probably get more news and less opinion, too, which I'm sure will be welcome. See you in Hanover.
