As we mark the 50th anniversary of "our" war in Korea, we recall Tom Fenton's service in the Sixth Fleet which extended on to nine years. When Tom was released from the Navy, he wrote newspaper copy and, though he is now a well-known European television correspondent, he still considers himself a journalist. "But," says he, "I can understand anyone who has another point of view. The way broadcast news is going these days, it's hard to distinguish it from the rest of the junk on the air." Tom lives in England at Knightsbridge, London.

David Schwartz has been doing detective work on the whereabouts of DaveAdler and discovered in the process that the College has two mailing lists: one for the Alumni Magazine and the other for the Crier. According to Dave Schwartz, Dave Adler retired two years ago and spends seven months in the north and five months in Florida. He is in touch with a number of classmates and so—hooray—the lost lamb is found. There was an Al Adler, who was in our freshman class and transferred to MIT. He is a citizen of the class whether he finished with us or not. He is not on the official address list, but no search is apparently too difficult for detective Schwartz where an Adler is concerned.

Dr. George Howard is looking for something, too: a traditional Dartmouth Songbook with words and music such as we had in our freshman orientation book. He phoned the Co-op and the Dartmouth Bookstore but both came up empty. Is this a job for Barnes & Noble? Amazon.com? Schwartz? Help!

The irrepressible Don Myers, "Vox Clamantis in St. Thomas," reports that the parade of hurricanes has raised Cain with the sailboat racing fleet. Don remembers when the football team played Michigan, Syracuse, Holy Cross and the Ivies, such as Pen who were serious in those days. "There were many obscure but effective players on the undermanned and over-scheduled Dartmouth teams," he writes, "who sacrificed much to avoid such unfortunate debacles" as the 1999 Harvard whipping. Oh, how it rankles. He loses even more sleep over the student life initiative memorandum.

The common birthday of HarveyKelly and Jim Fowler is noted. It is just a day before this writer's. People with mid-January birthdays usually don't celebrate, because they are taking exams.
