With another Class Notes deadline imminent, and no time to tap my extensive network of class contacts, it's a good time to check out our classmates who have been in the news recenLy. After an extensive national search, the United Way of Mid Coast Maine selected Barbara Reinertsen as its new executive director. After seven years as director of campaign and communications, Barbara is now leading the agency, which during that time has doubled the size of its campaign and has been rated consistently among the top United Ways in the country in terms of campaign growth. "Her experience, enthusiasm and proven track record made Barbara the best possible candidate," said the agency's chairman after Barbara's appointment. Before joining the United Way in 1992, Barbara held a variety of positions, including press secretary to former congressman Joe Brennan, a television news reporter and anchor and a researcher. She also serves on the board of directors of the Maine Center for Economic Policy.

Sandy Wood is one of the founders of Integrity Global Asset Management's Internet Index Fund, a no-load mutual fund that attempts to replicate the performance of the Dow Jones Internet index. Sandy, who has 15 years of experience in financial advising, joins the fund as director of client communications and public relations after serving as senior vice president of Advest Inc.

Other news from Wall Street includes the recent appointment of Frank Governali as a managing director of Goldman Sachs.

Finally, life is returning to normal in Bow, N.H., as the politicians have migrated southward. Betsey Cox Stebbins was happy to report that one of her former music students, Hannah Fries, was admitted to the class of 2004 this past December. Hannah is the oldest daughter of Ellen HamiltonFries. Seeing an increasing number of my classmates' children heading for Hanover, I guess I should check out Sandy's fund for our own college savings investment.
