Dartmouth Night Weekend will be October 27-28, and the football opponent will be Harvard. Art Johnson has booked the Sumner Mansion again as headquarters for our 1961 mini-reunion. The post-game keg will be at the new Boss Tennis Center, instead of the Frost statue (although pilgrimages to the statue are expected.) Most of the rest of the schedule will follow our familiar pattern. When this was written in late June, Art was in the process of lining up an after-dinner speaker from the office of long range planning who will give us an overview of construction activities on campus. Art heard this presentation on his last visit to Hanover and it was very informative, even for someone like him who is in Hanover on a regular basis.
Pete Bleyler reports that we made our Alumni Fund goal of $175,000. Participation and other facts and figures were still being calculated at deadline, but as of June 1, four weeks earlier, we had had 49-percent participation, at a point when we were still about $20,000 shy of the goal. Last year our class contributed $170,337, with 57-percent participation.
Pete also announced plans for a class of '61 winter/ski vacation to St. Moritz in the Swiss Alps January 26 to February 3, with an optional trip to Prague, February 3-6.The trip is open to all '61s, other Dartmouth alums, families and friends. We'll be staying at the Park Hotel Kurhaus, a four-star hotel in St. Moritz-Bad, right across the street from the Corviglia-cable car and next to the cross country-hiking paths of the Engadin section of the Alps. Contact Pete for details at pete.bleyler@valley.net or (603) 795-9912 and he'll e-mail you the complete description. "We expect to have between 25 and 45 people on the trip," Pete said. "I'm organizing this trip in conjunction with Colorado International Inc., a company specializing in European group ski packages. Ruth and I have known the president for 15 years and have used him extensively to setup our ski trips to Europe. We've never been disappointed!"
Oscar Arslanian has persuaded Frank Ginn to head up the effort to write and produce a 40th reunion book. As in the 25th reunion book, Frank will be asking each of us to produce a short essay on where we are and where we're going. It's not too soon to start thinking about what you want to say. He's also looking for some longer essays on Dartmouth-related subjects for the front of the book, so if you've got some ideas for that, contact Frank at casaginn@aol.com or (847) 446-6214. He's also planning a survey to get a statistical summary of the class circa 2001. And Frank is looking forvolunteers to help with production. We hope that most of you will be able to respond by e-mail or fax.
