This past June I opened the Andover Townsman, my local paper, to see the first birthday announcement of Duncan Dietz Bertetti, son of Scott Bertetti and Karen Dietz. Duncan is turning his parents into devout adherents of the "babyproofing" school of household decor. Scott received his M.B.A. from Tuck in '94, and then moved to Beacon Hill to work for the reengineering firm CSC Index. After a year Scott left to help start the Boston office of SRI Consulting. He built the office to more than 30 people, consulting to every major pharmaceutical company on the planet. Scott and Karen reunited and moved to Charlottesville, Virginia, for six months while Karen finished her masters in English lit at UVA; they then moved back to Beacon Hill and got married. When Scott realized that he had become an unwitting expert in oncology, he moved to Wilmington, Delaware, and joined FirstUSA, the credit card company. One year later he left with some senior execs to start Juniper Financial Corp., a leading online bank. Scott is building what analysts call the most robust wireless banking service in the country.
Then in August, while on a trip to Norfolk, Virginia, I turned on C-SPAN in my hotel room to see an interview with Tim Burger. Tim, a reporter for the New York Daily News, is a contributor to Overtime! The Election 2000 Thriller, edited by Larry Sabato. Tim was joining Larry in a discussion of the book and describing his adventures with the George W. Bush DUI story that arose during the campaign.
