We've signed up for perhaps our last great adventure: a week on the Columbia and Snake rivers on a Mississippi River style sternwheeler, with side trips from where Lewis & Clark reached the Pacific and jet boats into Hell's Canyon on the Snake. We'll tell you about it in June at our 65 th "Celebration With Class," God willing.
Today, December 19, I talked to Jane and Al Gibney in Florida, celebrating early Christmas with Jane's children, then off on a Panama Canal cruise postponed earlier due to Al's illness.
Shirley Fox's Christmas card shows Mt. Rainier mirrored in Reflections Lake, "the spot we chose, as David wished, for his ashes. But much as we miss him, we think of the great family we have (David Jr., Sally, Nancy) and all the love we share that supports us as we learn to live without him. I am grateful to David for pushing me to move to a retirement home. There we found interesting and friendly people I continue to enjoy." Shirley is active in the Women's University Club, her church and P.E.O.
The Rev. Bob Pumphrey Christmas-carded from Nevada: "My knees bug me, the rest is OK. Next summer I shall be a great great grandfather. Astonishing what time will do. Pray for our country!
In the June Tithe I reported on the national med school admissions cycle and the post-graduation hope for residency at the location of one's choice. Today a friend, sister of Dr. Nieringer at DMS, told me her daughter and husband-to-be, both due to become M.D.s in May, find themselves with others with set interview dates unable to get to their appointments due to weather in Boston, Chicago, etc., causing shutdowns. A painful start to a career.
