Over the past two months we learned from Bob Nuffort Jr. of his dad's passing on October 8, and through the College of the death of Johnny Wood on October 14.
Your new president Georgie Hanna is wrestling with a problem. He has circularized the executive committee as to its thoughts, and I'm sure he would welcome comment from any '39er. Should we continue the mini-reunions, and if so, when?
And should we hold a second executive committee meeting, and if so where and when? We had a nice letter from Bob Hall, who speaks of an Alumni College visit to Provence, France, last April. He also recommends a cruise around the British Isles that he and Jane took under the auspices of the Boston Alumni Association.Another peripatetic couple in '39. Martha Schofield responded to our birthday card to Jim by reporting that he is doing remarkably well, despite a debilitating illness that has impaired his speech. She suggests that she is still able to decipher what he says because of their long association. He finds a lot of things to laugh about, which is a healthy sign.
After the month of November in the south, Jeannie Smith, spouse of the late Endy, spent Christmas back in her quarters at Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, but returned to Vero Beach, Florida, in earlyjanuary.
Gordon King and his three Dartmouth sons, Richard '66, Robert '70 and Alan '74, were devastated by the passing of their wife and mother, Charlotte, on December 6.
The class of '57 recently initiated a program on which environmental issues are being discussed. It has a typical computer-like name, green-mouth, and is open to all members of the Dartmouth community and others who share a concern for the earths deteriorating environment. They intend the site to be a place for responsible study, where testimony about the globes long-range survival can be presented, challenged, debated and resolved; evolving into a plan for political advocacy and/or other forms of group and individual action.
