The following from John Moran (slightly edited): "Gretchen and I spent much of June and July on an RV trip from coast to coast, one focus being white-water rafting trips. We made our way to nearby Jackson, Wyoming, and stopped in on Bill Briggs. He is a resident of Jackson, and is the ski school director at Snow King Mountain. He is the leader of the Stagecoach Band, playing the banjo and the autoharp, and doing mainly country and western, bluegrass, folk music and ski songs. Bill is also still active as a mountain climbing guide. Before anyone ever heard of'extreme skiing,' he made the first descent on skis of nearby Grand Teton Mountain in 1971, a feat previously thought impossible. Bill, Bob Collins '53 and I had climbed the Grand in 1953. In a group of five from Dartmouth during spring break the same year, we had skied Snow King Mountain. Bill recalls that, on leaving Jackson Hole on the way to Sun Valley, we all vowed to return to live there, only Bill actually did. We stayed in Jackson to attend Bills 'Hootenanny,' held at the base of Snow King, a freewheeling lively session...he's a terrific yodeler and was in good form that night. Next time any of you are in Jackson on a Sunday night, you should hit the Stagecoach Bar in Wilson, a few miles to the west. Or the Hoot on Monday."
