I need to open with some family announcements from Hanover. Because of the magazines lead time, I'm actually writing this column during Winter Carnival weekend. I believe that the majority of you will appreciate this news item (unless, of course, you received a graduate degree from Harvard, married somebody who graduated from Harvard or have relatives who are Harvard alumni—although in some of these cases it might make this even more enjoyable for you). Anyhow, my husband/classmate, Bob Gaudet (Dartmouth's hockey coach), is pleased to report that the Dartmouth men's hockey team beat Harvard 7-0 last night in Thompson Arena. It was truly an enjoyable evening!

Starting out on that positive note, we now turn to the rest of the class. We have news flashes from the entertainment, athletic and global fronts. I received an e-mail from Cindy Ritter Ewing, who has recently made her New York opera debut as Dorabella in The Jade Operas January production of Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte at the New 42nd Street Theater. This spring she performed with Main Street Arts in Saxtons River, Vermont, in Gilbert & Sullivan's lolanthe, in which she played Phyllis. Following lolanthe she will be covering the role of Rosina for the Raylynmor Opera in Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Keene, New Hampshire, in May.

From across the globe we hear that Mark Greenquist has been named executive vice president and chief financial officer of Agere Systems, a world leader in semiconductors for communications applications. Mark had been working for General Motors Europe where he was vice president of finance and chief financial officer based in Zurich, Switzerland. He is currently living in Zurich and plans to relocate to New Jersey.

Back in the U.S.A., there were two classmates recently featured in Boston news. Ford Cavallari has been appointed the global commerce and content practice leader by Adventis, a management and strategy consultancy. Prior to joining Adventis in 1996, Ford founded Village Software. He was formerly director of product line marketing for Lotus Development Corp. and held various senior positions at Newsweek and Exxon. Down the road in Cambridge, Niels Sokol has been named mortgage executive for Cambridge Savings Bank. Before joining CSB, Niels was vice president of special lending at Rockland Trust Co. Niels, his wife and 3-year-old son reside in Cambridge. Word has it that baby No.2 was expected to arrive recently.

Did anybody see Susie Nutt zoom by in the New York Marathon? Susie and sister Sally Nutt Vanleeuwen '80 both had impressive times, finishing under four hours. I don't know about you, but I'd be impressed with myself if I could even walk the entire marathon route. Congratulations, Susie!

As I'm writing this in Hanover with two feet of snow still on the ground (and preparing for mud season) I look at the next news release with envy. From California, Carr America Development Inc. has announced that Jeff Nelsen has joined the company as vice president/director of development for the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior to this Jeff served as vice president for Polygon Development Co. in Costa Mesa, California, overseeing the company's new commercial development activities. Before Polygon he worked for Koll Development Co. in Newport Beach, California. Let's see—San Francisco, Costa Mesa, Newport Beach vs. mud season in the Upper Valley. I know that you all have been here at this time of year and can sympathize.

We close this column with a sincere request. Please send or e-mail us news about yourself so that we can refrain from fabrication. We hope to hear from all of you.
