First, some dates for upcoming class happenings. The fall mini-reunion in Hanover will be September 28-30, the Penn game weekend. Next springs gala West Coast mini-reunion in San Diego, April 20-24, a Saturday through Wednesday. Also, for fellow Tuck Schoolers, our 50 th reunion will be the weekend of September 21-23.
Continuing the practice I started a few columns ago, here go several more mini-bios, selected randomly from our 50th reunion book. The first is Jim Malone's. He lives in Middleton, Massachusetts, and reports, "My own story is brief: Early retirement from high school teaching, reading a bit and happy to be called 'Grandpa' or 'Papa.'" John's wife, Rosemary, passed away 10 years ago. His reunion bio reflects great pride in his five children, who have distinguished themselves in varied careers: a radioman/correspondent, a captain in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps, an attorney, a mutual fund executive and a high school intervention counselor.
Next up is Carl Reed, who lives in Colden, New York, south of Buffalo, where he and Nancy do volunteer work for a wildlife sanctuary, the Buffalo science museum, the Habitat for Humanity and their local church. They also continue ski patrolling, which they've done for almost 30 years. Carl's youngest son, a lacrosse player, was the third generation to attend Dartmouth.
John Swenson and Helen also have a Dartmouth son. They live in Glenview, Illinois, outside of Chicago. John obtained a law degree from Northwestern, practiced for a few years and then became a management consultant and executive recruiter. He's had a major interest in collecting and growing heirloom vegetables, and has a huge collection of rare garlics that are available to other serious growers. John is also a researcher, contributing editor and writer of an encyclopedic publication of the early history of the city of Chicago. Still another of his diverse interests is the spiritual life and the healing power of prayer.
Closing words: Send me an e-mail with some news for future columns. Remember the upcoming mini-reunions. And have a great summer.
