Steve Larson has been traveling about the country with the love of his life and his kayak (separate things). He spent some time in Hanover and on the Connecticut River, where he celebrated his 55th birthday. Along the way he stopped in to see Scott Balcomb in Glen wood Springs, Colorado, and reports that Scott is doing great and seems happy as hell with his legal and business and family successes. Steve is currently taking some time off from work to re-evaluate and find new directions. One final" goal of his trip is to find a place in western Montana to eventually settle down. Steve put me onto the whereabouts of Jon Swen son, and I actually spoke with Swede. He is a business writer in Seattle and shares his abode with Dr. Joan Clark. Jon's daughter, Dana, is a writer/photographer for a magazine in Spain, where she lives with husband Jorge Sanchez. Swede swore that he would make the next reunion. Bill Lind got a mention in an article in TheNew Yorker regarding modern warfare. Bill "is a military theorist who is one of the creators of a theory called Fourth Generation Warfare. The theory holds that the first three generations of warfare are passe, and the Fourth Generation—asymmetric warfare, such as terrorism—is now upon us. Lind worries that Shinseki's [chairman of the Joint Chiefs] new Stryker Brigades maybe co-opted by the institutional Army. 'The Army is like the Soviet-refrigerator industry in funny green suits,' Lind says, because 'it isn't about producing a product. It's acquiring and justifying resources' " Bill is the director of the Free Congress Foundation's Center for Cultural Conservatism. The article was excerpted by Ted Adams (whose second daughter will be joining No. 1 on the Hanover plain this year) and sent to the class e-mail list.
