Stuart Zuckerman heard the first impact and witnessed the collapse of the South Tower at the WTC from his office two blocks away before descending 19 flights of stairs on foot and walking three and ahalf hours to get home. He described lower Manhattan as looking like "scene from a bad sci-fi movie about a nuclear holocaust." Stu also sent word that following George Harrisons death, NBC's TodayShow led off with a report featuring Paul Gambaccini commenting on Harrisons life and music. He says that Paul's wry wit was much in evidence. Stu's timely e-mail alert (not on the class listserv yet?) allowed at least one classmate to catch the Today segment when it aired on the West Coast three hours later. I also saw a brief cut featuring Paul on MSNBC.
John Chittick was honored by Deerfield Academy with its Heritage Award, presented annually to the graduate whose professional and personal achievements represent a special contribution to the betterment of society. He recently returned from a two-year, 40-country journey to help teenagers in their fight against AIDS, having trained 70,000 volunteers.
Marc Jolicoeur reports that all is going well and sends news of the wedding of his son, Pete '95. Daughter Jen '97 was in the wedding party and brother Dennis, Mark Arnold and Randy McFarlane also attended. Jen works in NYC and also witnessed the events of 9/11. Marc relates that Randy and wife Carolyn travel extensively to exotic destinations to go birding, and that Mark Arnold and wife Fran are busy in the D.C. area. Marc is consulting, dividing his time between New Hampshire and Scottsdale, Arizona.
Phil Ehret's son, Gordie, is an '02 who will stay on for two more terms to complete a fiveyear bachelor of engineering program. I was gratified to hear that the undergrads that Phil has met through his son "embody what the administration hopes for in terms of inclusiveness, respect and maturity in college social life."
Gary Brooks forwarded the information that Chris Chesser co-produced a series for The History Channel titled The Color of War. It includes footage not seen since the end of WWII, if ever.
Finally, Bill Koenig attended a Systems Thinking in Action conference, where Bob Harrington was one of the presenters. Bill offers to add anyone who wants to the above-mentioned listserv if they will e-mail him at bill@ravenconsulting. net. Paul Oden has done some legal work for Bill, and Bill says that Paul and his family are in good shape. He mentions that "Paul says himself that he does honest work writing wills."
I'm off to Koh Samui in Thailand for this month (February); probably the last visit unless the Nasdaq resumes its near vertical ascent of that wall of worry.
Sign up for the class listserv; visit the class Web page; fill out an electronic Green Card (or a picture postcard for our collection) and let Jon, me and the rest of your friends and classmates know how you're doing!
