You're probably wondering if I defected to the class of 1956. Not so! In late Dcember when I should have been writing I was busy with my proposed wedding to Ms. Judith Stanley. That did occur, surprising thousands, and Judith and I are very happy as an old married couple. So please forgive my "no column" effort in December. I love all of you very dearly, but Judith more, and I had to attend to first things first. Marriage must be in style. Got a card from John Condit saying he had met an old high school sweetheart at his 55th reunion and as I read his words, "my own late tie-up," I assume he and high school sweetheart tied the knot. Congrats, best wishes to you both.

Now to straighten out a bit of misunderstanding. Apparently John McClintock had reported Samuel C. Florman s death in his December 2001 newsletter. Sam wrote John, copy to me, and, quoting Mark Twain, said reports of his death were greatly exaggerated. Sam still employed in his engineering firm and has written five non-fiction books and most recently a novel called The AfiermathA Novel of Survival.took for it on the bestseller list. Sam and wife Judy celebrated 50 years of marriage last summer. And here's one for you. They have lived in same NYC apartment for more than 40 years. Arecord, perhaps. I know I'm giving a lot of space to Sam but it's not always we can talk about someone returned to the land of the living. The finale! Sam writes: "Now that I've seen my first obituary, I may be moved to visit Hanover more frequently." Thanks to Pete Barker '54 I received news about our Jim Crawford. I advised you years back that Jim was continuing with the hammer and weight throwing. Pete tells me that Jim holds the American championships in both events in the 75-to-79-year-old group. Great—and now we know you're not 68 anymore! Seriously, our congrats and keep on throwing. Having missed a month, I'm not sure if John McClintock has reported the most recent deaths of classmates: Bedford Chapin and John Moss died on September 3,2001; Grant Paterson on September 4,2001; and Thomas McCollow on October 1,2001. We express our deepest sympathy to their families.
