On April 17th at our club I saw balloons rising from its grounds. I thought: "How do they know it's my 88th birthday?" The reality: They were announcing a new Somatic Fitness Center. My best present: great-grandson Leo in Vancouver, B.C. Green Card from Herm Nunnemacher: "In 1936 nine of us came from the Milwaukee area: four from Milwaukee University School, five from Milwaukee Country Day, both private and arch-rivals. Sadly only four of us are left: me; Bill Niss; Art Davidson, who broke his hip tripping on a rug, hence missed our 65th last June; and Steve Stotzer, home in Milwaukee and Sister Bay.
Bob Button: Add a half-hour interview over Voice of America's (VOA) 60th anniversary ceremony February 25th to Bob's arm-long list of public activities, repeated in other VOA languages. Bob was VOA director 1956 to 1958.
Bill Niss, seeing in my new book FromVenezuela With Love a pix of PAA's X-43 amphibian, was reminded when he and Abby lived in Jackson Heights near LaGuadia Field, when Dang Scherman arrived via PAA from his ZAM ZAM South Atlantic sinking. Bill and Abby couldn't get near Dang, so many press people. He'd hidden his pix of the sinking in a toothpaste tube until released by the Germans.
