"As the backs go tearing by, on their way to do or die...." The Bush administration has slated Superior Court Judge Kevin Ryan to be the San Francisco Bay Area's next U.S. attorney. Kevin has been serving as a state court judge since 1996 and will now be in charge of setting priorities that range from policing high-tech crime in the Silicon Valley to probing public corruption and stock market fraud. In the words of Ryan's co-worker, "He's a tough fighter, a straightahead guy and a man of honesty and integrity." Congratulations, Kevin.
"Many sighs and many tears, mingle with the Harvard cheers, as the backs go tearing by." Dartmouth 'Bos and '79s in the Boston area shared sighs and tears and laughter and memories as they tore up the backyard of mini-reunion host George Lester. George, wife Blanche and sons Benjamin and Blake generously offered up their barbecue and 10-plus acres of protected reservation to approximately 50 Big Greens and another 50 or so D spouses, family and friends. In addition to creating culinary specialties for the barbecue, George also finds time for mountain biking, hiking, skiing, leading Cub Scout packs and working in immigration law for Foley Hoag LLP in Boston.Thank you, George, for your hospitality and generosity. Any 'Bos who would like to follow George's lead and host a localized mini get-together, drop a note to president Merle Adelman at merle.adelman@siemens.com or phone her at (978) 251-9739.
"Making gain on steady gain." Alaskan rower Jill Fredston recently authored her first book. The book, Rowing to Latitude: Joumeys Along the Arctic's Edge, is a collection of stories based on experiences that she and husband Doug Fesler have undergone during their countless journeys by boat throughout Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Norway and Sweden. According to Jill, "writing this book was a lot like rowing. You don't always know where you are going, but when it's good and you know it, you keep going." Jill and Doug are co-directors of the Alaskan Mountain Safety Center in Anchorage.
