The dean and assistant dean of graduate studies held an outdoor reception for graduate-degree recipients and their guests on the evening before Commencement. Among the area graduate alumni who turned out to meet their new associates were John Carey (engineering '01) and Kevin Kunzendorf (MALS '01). John, who works for Agere Systems, recently moved to the Upper Valley from Boston. He expressed an interest in helping to organize graduate alumni events, so we hope to see more of him at the Arts and Sciences Graduate Alumni at Dartmouth outings planned for this summer. Kevin is about to leave the area for law school. After working for an estate planning attorney in Hanover, he hopes to begin his studies this fall at George Washington University Law School.
The Master of Arts in Liberal Studies Alumni Council invited all 30 '02 graduates, their families, friends, faculty and local graduate alumni to an elegant reception immediately following Commencement on Sunday afternoon, June 9. Alumni Council board member Nancy Silliman '95 (MALS '96) was in charge of planning the annual affair, with the help of board members Joan Kersey (MALS 96), who provided the spring flower arrangements, and Judy Chypre (MALS '99). Graduate alumni participating in the event included Grace Hill (MALS '75), who enjoys sharing with others her interest in movement, dance and the arts; Sharon Greene (MALS '97), now working as assistant to the board of trustees in the presidents office at Dartmouth; and Margaret Richard (MALS '85), who writes short stories, poetry and historical fiction. Also attending were Frank Anthony (MALS '84), Katia Ford (MALS '01), Joan Tomasi (MALS '77) and MALS Alumni Council board president Mike Beahan (MALS '97).
We also have news of another MALS alum ni, Linda Landrigan ( MALS '97), who was named editor-in-chief of Alfred Hitchcock' sMysteryMagazine. Linda served as associate editor for the magazine from 1996 to 2001 and assumed her new position in March of this year. The magazine, owned by Dell Magazines, publishes mystery short stories and novellas by both new writers and established authors. Linda has experience working as a freelance writer, editor and book reviewer. She is also active in the New York City chapter of the Women's National Book Association and has served as its publicity chair and newsletter editor.
