The Good: Rick Gerardi, program director with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has been honored with Rebuild Americas 2002 Energy Champion Award for Person of the Year (RA2K2 ECAPOY). The president of NYSERDA said: "New York State's residential programs have grown significantly throughout the past few years thanks to the leadership of Rick Gerardi. He has been recognized for his efforts to help the communities of New York State lower their energy costs through the New York Energy smart Communities Program. His professional commitment helps ensure New Yorker's realize a secure energy, environmental and economic future." Herman P. Laturnau has been named president and chief operating officer of the Lowell, Massachusetts-based company Fred C. Church Insurance. He has been with Fred C. Church for 17 years, starting as the chief financial officer. He lives in Londonderry, New Hampshire. Bruce E. Barcello has joined the Junior Achievement of Florida's First Coast's board of directors. He is also the principal of Barcelo & Co.

The Bad: It is with sadness that we note the passing of classmate Edward J. Duszlak. He died on August 19 at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. He leaves his wife, Carla; three daughters, Teresa, Catherine and Margaret; and a son, Edward III.
