Hail, fellow classmates well met! I've managed to hear from just enough of you to preempt my treatise on traction enhancing agents, a subject of particular relevance during this brutal winter in Hanover. Mark "Loon" Stitham tells me that he continues to try to make it in show biz while not starving in a garret—i.e. not taking down his medical shingle. He's landed one of the three leads in the play Art opening in February. It's a great play about middle-aged men and their relationships. Loon quotes Horace: "Eheu fugaces labuntur anni." For those benighted '72ers who didn't have to take Latin: "Alas the fleeing years glide by!" Amen, Loon!

Phil Goia checks in with, among other fascinating observations on the coming of age of computers since their fledgling days among us at Kiewit, the suggestion that our newsletter be published digitally with hypertext/hyperlinks. We're looking into that option along with the equivalent of a class "chat room" and listserv. As my coscribe John Rockwell will tell you, we are collecting a great number of e-mail addresses from the '72s (and we still need more!). Stay tuned!

Citing a family accomplishment, Joe Davis shares that his wife published a book last April that picked up some good sales over Christmas, and they're hoping that it continues to pick up steam. Together: Creating Family Traditions can be found at Barnes & Noble, Amazon or www.togetherparenting.com.

Bruce Swift dropped me a postcard. He now calls Boston home, but only after a month-long tour of Europe. His itinerary included three days in Iceland, three more in Paris, three in Nice (what's up with this "three day" thing, Bruce?), a weekend in Barcelona, a day each in Toulouse and Bordeaux, five in the Loire Valley and then another week in Paris, with great views of Scotland and Labrador on the return trip. OK, Bruce, your travelogue has just been nominated as one of the featured items of entertainment at our 35th!

My dear friend and our esteemed mini-reunion chair Shel Prentice was in town recently for Club Officers Weekend. Shel had his third daughter, Julie, in tow. Julie, a strong prospect for the College with the potential for winning Shel a "hat trick" in legacies (daughters Hilary '01 and Amanda '06), has an outstanding singing voice and wowed the crowd by performing the National Anthem at the Harvard hockey game! After the game I crashed one of the club officers events and ran into Barry Weeks. Barry is well, albeit recovering from some carpal tunnel issues. We hope these resolve in time for spring golf!

John's newsletter (nice work!) will arrive at your homes before this column. I've previewed it and am pleased to see the number of classmates keeping in touch with us and thus each other. We're on a roll, so let's keep those cards, letters and e-mails coming in!

And maybe by the time this reaches you we'll be out of the deep freeze in Hanover! Be well!
