Wowzahs. Lots of good news this month.

Congratulations to Gisela Insuaste, otherwise known as Goose. She is the winner of the 2004 Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Emerging Artist Award. The prize, which is given to a Chicago-area artist, includes a $10,000 prize.

Goose, who paints, sculpts and creates installations, completed her masters degree in fine arts at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2003. She received a fellowship for a January 2004 residency at the Vermont Studio Center and just recently had another residency at El Centro Cultural Flores Franco in Riobamba, Ecuador.

I did a quick Google search and came across some of Goose's great work at http:// subaltern.org/gisela.htm.Yay, Goose!!

Congratulations to Adam Nelson, who won a silver medal August 19 for the shot put at the Athens Olympics with a throw of 21.16 meters. The next day on the Today Show, Adam told Matt and Katie that he plans to compete for gold at the next Olympics in Beijing in 2008. Adam also won silver in Sydney four years ago.

Some news from the West Coast: Craig Whitmer recently stopped in San Francisco on his way back from a trip to Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. He had dinner with Geoff Garinger and Rob Leathern before heading back east to start Tuck School of Business in the fall.
