It is with sadness that I report the death of Kelley Kristina Parker. She died November 13, 2003, at Virginia Hospital Center.
Kelley lived in Falls Church, Virginia, and was the founder of Cystic Fibrosis L.I.F.E. (Life Is For Everyone), a grassroots organization with a global handprint that helped children with cystic fibrosis. The organization brought patients and physicians from countries around the world to the United States for treatment and education. It also established an international registry of children with cystic fibrosis awaiting adoption.
Kelley, who had cystic fibrosis, was educated bedside by tutors for two years before coming to Dartmouth. At Dartmouth she belonged to Sigma Delta and Fire & Skoal. She double-majored in anthropology and art history.
Kelley's mom, Pamela J. Barton, explained that two years ago Kelley changed her name to lona Kelley Eilish. This name, which incorporates Scottish, Irish and Welsh, means "peaceful warrior of light."
Contributions in Kelley's name maybe made to Fire Fighters Fund of Fairfax, P.O. Box 401, Fairfax, VA 22030-0401. Kelley's mom said emergency paramedics transported Kelley to the hospital many times over the years.
As I write this column, we're just three days from the close of 2003. This year—like all others was tinged with both sadness and sweetness. Two of the sweetest things were the births and marriages throughout the year.
On September 4 Andrea Hill Packard gave birth to Cameron Charles Packard. Andrea and her husband, Russ, were married in September 2000 and now live in Salem, New Hampshire. They run a playground sales business out of their house. "It's challenging but rewarding to be working for ourselves," Andrea writes. Andrea says she sees several '97s in the Boston area, including Amy Schneeberger, Beth Johnsen Stefanowicz and Lindsey Noecker. "I'm not too far from Dartmouth, so if anyone is visiting the area feel free to look me up: admin@drplayonline.com," Andrea writes.
I recently was honored to attend the December 28 wedding of Meredith Epstein and Jeff Goodman. They were married at Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, New York. Meredith looked gorgeous. And the love between these two was palpable.
A slew of Dartmouth grads attended the wedding, including '97s Stephanie Moser; Karen Salzberg; Vas Narayan; Liz (Lipson) Glass and her husband, Andrew; Alex Scheibe and her husband, Kyle Taylor; Holly (Thomas) Landsittel, Tu'02, and her husband, Mike, Tu'02; Maura Troy and her fiance, Coleman Bigelow; Eric Serotta; and Dave Zipkin. Other classes were also well represented by Lauren Epstein '00, Simone Swink '98, Jesse Israel '96, Jonathan Meltzer '96, Chandra Stanley '96 and Marc Wilson '96. Meredith is nearing completion of her M.B.A. at Wharton; Jeff works in the intensive care unit of the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center-Presbyterian in Philadelphia and will begin a fellowship at New York University Medical Center in July.
My very best wishes to everyone for a 2004 full of health, happiness, wisdom, adventures and peace.
