jack Bobbin's Christmas card reported he and Jeanne to be busy and still heavily into maritime museums. They took their first cruise on the Queen Mary 11, too.

Dick Dahl's annual report on the Dartmouth- Princeton game described a dismal performance, closing the 1-9 season. Shortly thereafter Coach Lyons was fired, which many of us thought to be appropriate. However, it was later revealed by the College that admissions dean Furstenberg had written congratulations to Swarthmore College's president four years ago when they dropped football. It would appear that John Lyons complaints about having a tough time getting recruits accepted on a competitive level with our peer schools may have been valid. In the face of the capital campaign kickoff in November and the admissions dean's demeaning remarks about footballers, many soothing messages have come from Parkhurst and McNutt in recent days. The bottom line is that the search for a replacement for Coach Lyons has been made a lot more difficult. It isn't easy having your Ivy buddies sneer at you when the weekly scores are published and the Big Green team is at the bottom of the heap. Let's hope that there is some tangible evidence of a change for the better forthcoming soon. Before the current admissions formula was established, John Lyons coached to a 10-0 season.

Hope that you are well into the New Year with all kinds of good things planned. If you are in the Hanover area on the first Tuesday of the month, take part in the '48 Kitchen Cabinet noon meeting at the Norwich Inn. Be sure to put the 48 fall mini, September 29 to October 1, on your calendar.
