A phone call from Morrie Stein elicited the information that his grandson is due to graduate from Dartmouth this June, making him the third generation of the family to do so. Morrie is understandably proud of the accomplishment.
The latest update on Bob Button sounds encouraging. His left hand is now cooperating and giving him more correct notes when he plays the piano. While he is still not up to his former busy schedule, he does play at clubs, churches and hospitals as accompanist to his favorite singer, his wife, Decima. Many of us remember their performances at some of our mini-reunions, and we hope there will be more in the future.
Shirley Fox has been my main source of information about Ed Drechsel and Ilona. However, when I called her in mid-February she apologized for not having called Ilona for a while. The reason? Shirley herself had a rotator cuff operation about a week earlier, and was still in considerable pain. Also, with her right arm in a sling, her movements were naturally somewhat restricted. We hope that by the time you read this Shirley is back in good health and is as enthusiastic as ever.
I just talked with Bill Crangle, who gave me the sad news of four more departed classmates: William Kirk on July 23,2004; Von Oehmig on October 10,2004; and Charles Corwin and Sumner Harris, both on December 28,2004. We extend our sympathies to the families of all of them. Their obituaries should appear in the next issue of the magazine.
