I recently heard from Abby Drevs, who's currently working for Y-ME, a national breast cancer support organization, in charge of the educational and support programs. Earlier this winter she went out to Colorado and "skied with one Mr.Carl N.E. Burnett whilehe was out training with the U.S. disabled team. We stopped by Aspen on the Monday of the X-Games to witness the first time disabled skiing was included in the games—which was awesome! Carl finished the ski season with a trifecta of bronze medals at the U.S. Nationals." Abby's run into fellow Chicagoans Sara Szkola, Jon Budzik, John Jewett and Jon Hollander a few times around town and in February went out to Philadelphia for a conference and was able to meet up with Chris Collier and John Myers. Chris let me know that this summer he is biking with his brother from Vancouver, 8.C., all the way to the East Coast, roughly following the Lewis & Clark Trail. "If I survive the trip in the fall I will be moving to England and working toward a master's in musicology at the University of Oxford." John also has some exciting plans coming up once he finishes his first year of medical school at Cornell. "Being back in school has been quite an adjustment after an exciting year off (2003-04) doing public heath work in the Philippines, but over the winter I finally started to get back into my groove studying. Chris and I will be going on a road trip during my spring break to Cooperstown and some microbreweries upstate. It'll be nice to get out of the city and enjoy some beer, barbeque and baseball. Finally, this summer I'll be in N.Y.C. doing HIV vaccine research at the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center and I look forward to reconnecting with my freshman-year roommate, Alan Sull, who is spending the summer working in my neighborhood at the Hospital for Special Surgery of Weill Cornell Medical Center."

Always the adventurous one, Jason Ortiz wrote in to say he went to Africa to visit Meredith Brooks on her Peace Corps stint on the island of Zanzibar in Tanzania. "She does health education work and holds AIDS/HIV awareness workshops with the teachers of the island. When I was there, she was on vacation and we did nothing but eat, drink and enjoy the beaches. The beaches we went to had super clear, warm water. You could see your feet underwater. And the weather was perfect since it was starting to cool down due to the rainy season. I got to see Red Colobus monkeys in the trees on a trip through a local forest. We went on a spice tour to see how certain spices are harvested. I ate a bunch of weird and delicious fruits: jackfruit, which is a cross between a banana and a pineapple, custard apple and oranges that were green. The pizza is also another delicacy that they have which resembles an egg roll to me. It's like a pita with ground beef, onion and an egg topped off with a ketchup-like sauce. I could eat one of those everyday for the rest of my life (though they might cause me to die from a heart attack at the age of 29)."

Finally, Jess Adams let me know that she was recently in New York City and able to catch up with Shevani Jaisingh, Adam Han and Jared Alessandroni, who are all doing well.
