In January Steven Briggs was appointed as chief counsel of the criminal justice division of the Oregon Department of Justice. Prior to that he served as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, a deputy district attorney of Washington County and then as attorney-in-charge of the organized crime section. Marie Longo moved to Newton, Massachusetts, in August 2003. She works in development at the Museum of Fine Arts and has twins (a boy and a girl). Burgie Howard waxed poetic as he wrote: "Since Father Time is catching up with all '86s, a few have decided to celebrate their 40th b-days in style. Last October a group of alums and Hanover residents gathered at the Moosilauke Ravine Lodge for a surprise b-day welcome for Chris Keating expertly organized by his wife, Kiki. The festivities included a hike up the mountain, complete with various stations' requiring Mr. Keating to exercise his mind and body (everything from pushups to libations and a stupendous rendition of the 'Salty Dog Rag'!) Only what we could expect from the former president of the DOC. The Dartmouth folks in attendance for this gathering were Mary (Markland) Gannon and her husband, John '87 (Texas), Kristof Hagerman (California), Rob Hunger and his wife, Monique, and others. Since it was the final weekend the Ravine Lodge was open for the season. The lodge crew suspended its usual 'quiet hours' rules and the assembled crowd took full advantage! After hours of good food, drink and dancing, the faithful crawled into their bunks around 4 a.m. Frankly, that was probably the latest Keating has been awake since his kids were in diapers. Usually he succumbs to the 9 p.m. bedtime of the 40-plus crowd." So now the trick is to get Burgie to talk about his 40th b-day bash in Vegas. Anyone? Shelley Mosley Stanzel wrote in: "I recently attended Marion Halliday Lewis' 40th birthday party in Louisville, Kentucky. Jennifer Keys, Deb Kuhnart and Nine Sanders were also there. We stayed at Marion's house and spent an entire day at a local spa. Between pedicures, massages, manicures and lunch, we talked and talked. One year ago I returned part-time to the business that my husband and I founded in 1989. I had stayed at home with our son, Chappell, for eight years, although I kept my finger in the business by attending trade shows and lecturing at them. I had a good time with my son and served on some nonprofit boards. Going back to work was a definite change. In fact, my office had been turned into a storage room. My husband is very pleased that we are working together again, and I feel lucky that I was able take off as long as I did and still have an interesting job waiting for me. Although I really like working, I leave the office at 3 o'clock each day to take Chappell to piano and swim team. While I was a stay-at-home mother I became reacquainted with Amy Kazanjian Spence, who moved to Dallas about 10 years ago and recently had her ninth child! Not only are her children exceedingly polite and well-behaved, her house is an organizational wonder. I think that she holds the record for the most children in our class."
